Virginia Beach Information
Best of Virginia Beach
One of the most popular beach resorts is to be found in Virginia at Virginia Beach, a tourist spot famous for its miles of oceanfront. It has
the longest pleasure beach in the world and world-class restaurants and hotel complexes. Dining includes Mexican, Indian, Greek, Caribbean,
Japanese, Italian and seafood specialists. There are a number of Irish themed pubs that give a friendly welcome. There are many buildings of
historic significance dating from colonial times, a rich marine life and year round golfing. The area is also well known for its abundance of
craft shops and antique sellers. The climate has supported a number of vineyards and a lager and beer industry has grown with the creation of
microbreweries. Several military bases are located here.
For anyone planning to visit the region, it's worth noting the calendar of events that run in VirginiaBeach. They cater for every interest,
including the Boardwalk Art Show, Rock and Roll Half Marathon, Neptune Festival and East Coast Surfing Championship.
Virginia Beach Facts
There are many state parks in the area, including the unusual Mount Trashmore Park, containing a mountain that was artificially created from a
mixture of soil and waste. Young people frequent the skate park there and fishing enthusiasts enjoy their sport at the two lakes that are both
well stocked with fish. Nature lovers will appreciate the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, an 8,000-acre site of freshwater marshes, ocean
beach and ponds that is home to migrating wildfowl. The Tidewater Arboretum has twelve themed gardens and displays a collection of plants
indigenous to the VirginiaBeach region.
The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center has an impressive display of sting rays, sea turtles, jellyfish, nurse and brown sharks and
octopus. The state has an interesting history and this can be studied at the museum in the Adam Thoroughgood House, a fully restored building
that dates from 1636 and is one of the oldest dwellings in Virginia. The coastline has always needed its lighthouses and there are two at
Virginia Beach. The newer one replaced the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse on the Atlantic Shore, which was built in 1792 and is now open to the public
and has a viewing area.
The resort does not just look to the past but provides modern amenities too. The Verizon Wireless Virginia Beach Amphitheatre is the venue for
concerts and shows and attracts big name stars. Classical music is provided by the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra. As you can see this a nice
travel spot.
